IMPROVE YOUR SEX LIFE + 7 OTHER BENEFITS OF A DIP IN THE SEA
Ever wondered why you suddenly feel like a new person after a dip in the ocean? Or why for a brief period after you submerge your head in the seawater after a night on the booze you feel like a million bucks?
Ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates (heard of him right?), described the healing effects of bathing in the ocean as “thalassotherapy”…
… but we just call it the ultimate hangover cure/pick-me-up/wake-up call/mood booster/problem solver.
Aside from making you feel freakin’ on top of the world, the ocean has some serious (legit) health benefits (those Icebergs members are on to something)!

Aside from making you feel freakin’ on top of the world, the ocean has some serious (legit) health benefits (those Icebergs members are on to something)!
Well here are a bunch of them for you to consider:
1. Great for your immunity.
Seawater contains a bunch of vital elements, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and living microorganisms that promote a healthy immune system. Simply by swimming in the ocean our bodies are able to absorb all of this amazingness through our skin.
It’s believed that certain sea minerals even cause the expulsion of disease causing toxins from our bodies. Pretty cool stuff, right?
2. Boosts circulation
Swimming in warm seawater (so maybe not in the middle of winter) improves circulation by restoring essential minerals that our bodies are depleted in due to external causes like stress, poor diet and environmental toxins.
On the flip side swimming in cold water is known to boost metabolism and and trigger a rush of adrenaline which is thought to temporarily relieve aches and pains.
3. Improves mental health
Minerals in the sea air are believed to reduce stress, while negatively charged ions in the sea air combat free radicals, improving alertness and concentration.
The salt in the ocean is thought to preserve tryptamine, serotonin and melatonin levels in the brain, which aid in diminishing depression and increasing your overall sense of wellness. Read more about mental health and the ocean here.
4. Improves your general well being
It’s not just about swimming in it either. A 2013 study by environmental psychologist Matthew White found that just by living by the sea people’s wellbeing is improved.
5. Peaceful sleep
In the same way the healthy negative ions in sea air improves our mental health it also helps us sleep better by accelerating our ability to absorb oxygen. You sure do sleep better after a good surf!
6. Blisses you out
Research indicates that even just the sound of the waves alters brain wave patterns sending you into a deep relaxed state.
7. Amps up your sex life
Now we’ve got your attention! Research has shown that immersing yourself in cold seawater may improve your sex life by increasing the levels of testosterone and oestrogen in men and women respectively.
8. Gives you soft and supple skin
Gives you soft and supple skin: A study published in the International Journal of Dermatology found that magnesium-rich sea water promotes the retention of moisture in the skin.
Well that settles it then, we’re off for a surf. Check ya!
